Best free sailing manual

Post by boffo » Feb 1st, '08, 21:58

For basic sailing principles and information, the best free guide I have found is the handbook for the sailing course at 'UCLA' (University of California, Los Angeles)

It is also hosted on the Marina del Rey website, and while it is specificaly about small boat sailing, it is a very good first principles guide.

edit: Alternate link to the above file http://www.recreation.ucla.edu/site_pdf ... Manual.pdf

there is a second manual that goes into trim & perfomance basics as well

So that there is not just a manual for 'noobs',
heres a good one to get your head around.

this is the "Advanced Sailing Notes as a WORD FILE"

while it too covers the basics, it does gointo some detail in other areas (polar plot anyone?)
