I've just spent the morning unsuccessfully trying to park my boat in the cutting- anyone hoping to camp in there fri night should pack their boat light and be prepared to do some wading in thick goopy black stuff. It appears that a lot of the sludge that the dredger has brought up has been washed back into the cutting by the last few days of easterlies- YUCK

Possibly one of the best places to tie up at the moment - it's reasonably deep to the west of it and has some protection from the easterlies.

It's about 3.45am and I've been awake for over two hours. My alarm was set for 4am so my neighbour and I could be on our way to Sale by 5. It seems that whenever I have to be up stupidly early, I can't sleep however tired I am. Damn it all! When Division A starts, if the big blue hartley is just sitting there, give us a nudge to wake me up. I think it's going to be a tough few days.

I know the feeling - sleepness night prior to yesterdays failed attempt at parking, and here I am awake again - guess I'll make another trip down and move the boat into the compound.

Lets call it preparing our circadian rythm for the race?

Cruisingpete wins the beached whale award, and his rl 28 passes the pull down test! We must have had 10 people pulling and pushing in random directions to get it off the sandbar!

First boat has just passed through Hollands Landing. The moon isn't up yet, so I couldn't see what it was, but it had a sloping stern like a Castle/Sonata etc. It also had the unmistakable sound of an outboard.

It's looking like being a very typical Marlay Point; there was a good 15 knot sea breeze from the east before the start; now as midnight approaches there is of course barely a breath of wind.

The lead boats were approaching Hollands Landing about 1am. At the moment (1:36) we're seeing things like Elliots, and a Farr tri has just gone by. A little breeze picked up just after 1am, so they're moving past at a gentle but respectable pace.

There's a steady stream of boats now
RL24 The Sting (Previously owned BumbleBee) has just passed through 2:22am.
Castle 136, Barefoot 2:24am
Another Castle with a blue stripe at the waterline, too far away to identify.
A Couta boat. 2:25am
Castle 124 (Stephen Reardon, Mad Mouse) 2:28am
Several more Castles I couldn't identify; still haven't seen a Noelex...
First Noelex I've seen #880 which google tells me is "Running Free" at 2:47am
Castle CA550 (presumably a 550, possibly Raptor?
2nd Noelex 25 that I have seen, Ian in Creme Caramel, 2:54am, not bad for a first time racer!
Castle 97 2:55sm
3am, another Noelex and I'm off to Wattle Point now

One fox, countless rabbits, two wombats and two roos between Hollands Landing and Wattle Point, but no boats to be seen at Wattle Point by 4am.

What a great service by Zebedee the roving reporter! Keep the reports coming Zeb (after a nanna-nap).

Looks like there has been at least a bit of breeze and from a favourable direction this morning.

Well, another MPONR with a bit of everything - drifting through the straights then coming back around raymond island overpowered. Entertaining finish watching marg flying the kite across the line.

Hope you all get home safely

I took this whilst everyone else was asleep - too tired to think of using mr ray to steer so all my shots are from the tiller.

I particularly like this one - boats drifting in every direction, including ruby red going backwards in the left corner of the image! Marlay mayham!

I'm not sure if flying the kite made and difference to boat speed, but it looked impressive.

One of the nice things about treating this year as a cruise is I could chill out and take photos / enjoy the atmosphere rather than think about sailing.
