Background
Back in June, Paul sent me a PM asking about the grounding of Rockstar. We had talked a few times about the Catalina 320 I had in the Whitsundays. After hearing about his treatment, and talking to him on the phone about his recovery, I sent him the following PM.

Hi Paul,

Hope all is progressing well with your recovery.
BTW, when you are better, how about an almost free holiday in the Whitsundays?

I get 4 weeks a year, and never use them all. You are welcome to take Rockstar for a week, after all you have been through, you probably need some sunshine.
It works out to be about $700 for the week (this is the incidentals that I get charged for each hire).
Let me know if you are interested (no hurry, when you are feeling better).

Cheers
Simon

Unfortunately, Paul never got the chance to use it. But instead of letting it go to waste, I thought we could raffle the week off, and donate 100% of the money to the Cancer Council (between Charter Yachts Australia and myself, will pick up the incidental costs). Paul gave so much of his time to TSP, his book will a legacy many of us value for years to come.

So, I propose the usual raffle arrangement.
$1/ticket,

How to pay for tickets
http://www.paypal.com.au (use accounts@trailersailerplace.com.au )

Direct Deposit to
BSB 932-000
ACCT 429478
Use your name as the reference

Cheque or Postal Order to
Simon Rock
PO Box 1007
Singleton NSW 2330

Raffle will be drawn at the Heaven Can Wait Race at the end of September.

Prize is for 7 days boat charter on Rockstar, (for details, check out Charter Yachts Australia - Airlie Beach), available for all times (except school holidays).

Of course, if you don't like the idea of the raffle - don't buy any tickets.
All ticket names will be listed on TSP - to ensure we keep track of the tickets bought .
Of course, any donations will also be greatly received.

WOW - Thanks to everybody that has already donated/bought some tickets. It has been overwhelming.

Hi Simon
I've put my money where my mouth is for this very special cause. Money sent via direct debit. C'mon everybody this is a very special cause. Like others I have lost loved ones to cancer and to lose one of our fellow TSPers to this diabolical decease requires as many of us as possible to donate to assist the researchers help find a cure. Thanks for the effort Simon, great idea!!!

Hi Simon

What a great idea. Having sailed regularly with Paul out of Mornington and twice in the Whitsundays with him, I can attest to the wonderful guy and seaman he was and how fantastic it is to sail around the islands up north. We had invited Paul and Laurie to sail with us again last month, but of course he was just so ill.

As you know, he just loved Catalinas, especially the 320 and managed to get a look at recent photos from one of the crew on our return a couple of weeks ago - we took out Satori, a 400 at CYA that you would know.

Paul's funeral is on Friday morning 7 September in Melbourne and Laurie has asked that attendees donate to Sailability, in lieu of flowers.

My funds for your raffle are on their way.

Kind Regards

Tony

Hi Simon,
Just did a bank transfer. You are doing a great job for a good cause. Got your email out of the blue (in our caravan, not our boat). Now have renewed interest in the trailer sailer site. We must get our boat out of mothballs soon.

Best wishes,

John and Linda

Great way to add a silver lining, to a very sad event, Simon, and champion effort.

Money transferred by direct transfer.

I can vouch for the research as I still have my other half, and my father.
