New boat

For our friends who no longer are able to have a trailer under their Yacht ;-) and we all use a mast and sails at the end of the day (or start of the day!!)

Oh well I tried to crop and download a photo but the internet is not playing nice tonight, even photo bucket where I normally transfer photos is kicking me out.. We were trying to buy a similar size Lagoon Catamaran to Sunshine but were just having all sorts of issues with Brokers and vendors when we were looking overseas. Then a few weeks ago a boat a big bigger came on the market on the Gold Coast and we decided to go have a look. Long Story short Sue and I are now the very fortunate owners of a 2007 Lagoon 440. A tad bigger than we wanted to go but the boat has just undergone a major upgrade and fitted our check list very well. Just in the process of packing all our gear that we had stored to head north and start getting the boat fitted out.

Just a quick update. We left the boat at Hope Harbour on the gold coast while we did what I consider standard maintenance on the boat before we headed off. A really big engine and sail drive overhaul to check everything. Good job we did as we found crook bearings and worn shafts in both sail drives along with clogged heat exchangers which had been the cause of the motor overheating at high revs.
We updated all the safety gear as well as installing smoke and CO 2 alarms. New upgraded fire extinguishers replaced all the smaller original ones which had not been tested and were showing signs of corrosion. The water maker was fully serviced and should now see us making between 60 and 100 litres an hour. Lots of little jobs done just to turn the boat into our boat including an extra fridge and BBQ. We also upgraded from the old plough anchor to a 40 KG Rocna which I consider cheap insurance.
So today we finally cast off the lines and headed up to an anchorage at the top of Russel Island at the southern end of Moreton Bay. Just a short hop to sort out our systems and see how everything works out. Off to Bribie Island then Mooloolaba, Great Sandy Straights and then run north to the Whitsundays for the cruising season. Really looking forward to stretching the legs on the new boat.
