Greg (Inma) and I went down to Beaumaris Motor Yacht Squadron to meet Shane (Madmission) at the east ramp and spent a pleasant evening aboard, tied to the jetty and chatting.

The large jetty next to the clubhouse has lower levels down both sides which would suit our boats for a day destination or an overnight in good weather, with shops a short walk away in Keys Street. Now that the Beaumaris Hotel has closed for conversion to apartments, it's a nice quiet spot too.

Some preparation or local knowledge is required to negotiate the mussel farm and the reef near the east ramp.

Sadly, the club has made it quite clear over the years that potential new members whose boats have sails are not welcome, however the jetty, foreshore and ramp areas are public; only the immediate grounds of the club and the vehicle access to the ramps are private.

That is a pretty good effort against the northerly. Well done.

I always think the bay is such a good destination for sailing in a TS. Good challenging distances.

regards

Thanks Ron hope you enjoyed the trip ... unfortunately no one else could make the trip its awkward to get away at the best of times i am hoping to return to the full moon timetable that was so successful before i started building the house :D

I was fortunate to meet some fellow cruisers the night i launched and kept in contact finally rendezvousing in williamstown for the last leg to sail in company back to geelong

They are circumnavigating and are from adelaide so naturally a bit bigger than a ts
Venture is a Cabo Rico 38

Image

Our rendezvous was complicated by a most idiotic police check to both our boats
they stopped me in the channel just off the breakwater and right in front of a departing car carrier and we (cops & I) recieved a few blasts from the ships horn which somewhat shortened my inspection , they then went on to check "venture" once the ship had cleared ... i suppose they got part of their quota for the morning and could cruise to a latte somewhere else.

Image

2 minutes later

Image

and after the carrier cleared

Image

After our brush with the law we had a great time reaching along the west shoreline taking photos of each others boats

Image

Image

Image

In the unofficial race the b20 proved a persistent irritant to the larger cousin although i resorted to some rail sitting

Image

We rafted up in limeburners to exchange photos , recapped the events of the day and enjoyed that korma curry i cooked the night before all washed down with a few red neds before i returned to st helens

this is a track of the trip

As a brief aside to this report
The Yacht Venture has a Blog going and its passage can be followed here
http://adventures-on-venture.blogspot.com.au
Currently i believe them to be on the Gippsland lakes at metung after short stay at refuge cove
Dave and Terry are a great pair and being ex Austral 20 owners very much at ease with us ts types
I suggested on their trip north they may come across some more tsp'ers to welcome them along their way
So if your out and about look them up and say hello , pass on my regards
