2016 is the 400th anniversary of the visit by Dirk Hartog to Shark Bay. I have contacted the committee that is coordinating celebration events and have proposed a "Sail in Company" cruise from Denham to Dirk Hartog Island and north to Cape Inscription. a 5 or 6 day cruise is envisaged and would suit boats 6.5 to 8 m that have been set up for short term cruising. The seas are protected from the big ocean swells, although the final leg to cape Inscription is best undertaken with local knowledge.

Hartog landed in October of 1616 but it tends to be blowy from the South at that time of year. The ideal time would be late April or early May.

It would be wonderful to see a contingent of boats from TSP joining in this historic event.

I'll keep this thread posted as more details develop. Meanwhile, I welcome suggestions or collaborative efforts.

Hi Terry

We are still planning on coming to Shark Bay 2016, but I'm not sure if we will be allowed to do your cruise as our boat is 8.5m !

talk soon

I can always supply a chain saw if you need to qualify.

Well done for having a go at this, Terry. Great bit of Australian maritime history!!!

You would have some choice pics of your visit to the area to 'tease the tastebuds'

There is also a bit of a writeup in BBL of our 2007 visit to Cape Inscription first reply here:
viewtopic.php?f=21&t=5769
and about 20 pictures from this one:

(We had earlier visited the Vlamingh plate in the Freo shipwrecks museum https://plus.google.com/photos/11231712 ... 4888304506)

Coincidentally, we happily also managed to 'close the circle' earlier this month (7th)in a targetted visit to the Rijkmuseum:

Great resources Bob,
I am waiting on a meeting of the overall organising committee to ratify the concept then I'll start some planning, including a bit of a web site to advertise things. I'll certainly call on your experiences, as well as some photos.
