What would normally be posted errors like the message that states you are trying upload an image file that is too big will result in SQL errors as well.

I think that the confirmation message of the post is dead hence the SQL error.

Can anyone with more years than me remember how long it used to take for a new post to register? ie be actually posted. It takes ages for me today. Indicative (at least to me) if a RAM issue - not enough RAM - lots of disk swapping occurring.

It should be pretty well instantaneous if you have a good internet connection.

I think it has to do with the amount of characters..

My bad. I meant the time from when you click the Submit button to when you get confirmation of the post. Takes 10 seconds for me - a long time in the scheme of things. Edit of an existing post is near instant.

It is not speed - I am on 100Mbps down and 40Mbps up at present.

Whatever it is, it does seem to be gradually worsening. I can open most topics but for the first time this morning I cannot open the B20 Mast Raising thread despite about ten attempts. All the other topics that I tried have opened first time.

Yeh but every post results in a timeout error . . . the post works though. One hopes that this is stage one - ie upgrade of the site to a later version of phpBB

Hi Jim,
I have upgraded the forum software to the latest version, and will now work through some of the other issues that are still causing grief.
Cheers

I've found a new problem.
I discovered that a search for "fortress" and "fx7" turns up just Inma's one post (well two when I hit submit on this one).
I then tried searching for "solar" and turned up nothing at all, not a single post!

It seems that searches no longer turn up posts earlier than the software upgrade.
