Port Phillip Bay Lap and Cruise Yarra River Pics 4-13/1/14

Post by BosunBob » Jan 25th, '14, 23:40

Nine day boat trip in Melbourne. Arrived 4 January launched at Warmies (mouth of Yarra)
Stayed a week at d'Albora's Pier 35 Marina on Yarra River near Westgate Bridge. Good.
Watched the Flying Ant Skiff Nationals on Hobson's at Port Melbourne YC finished 9 January.

10 Jan: Left for Queenscliff 30 miles in a blustery northerley.
Moored opposite the yacht club to wait the sw change.

Jan 11: Tied up in the marina for two hours and wait for slacker water.
Chatted with some Boomarang 20 owners who sail out of Geelong
Went across heads past Sorrento to moor at Blairgowrie for the night.
Nice baked pork dinner in the Magma. Bottle of bubbly -45th wedding anniversary
Left under kite toward Mt Martha, Mornington, Hovell Pile to Melbourne
Stayed the night at Pier 35. Showers. Dropped the mast then headed to town for dinner.
Visited the Matthew Flinders statue opposite Flinders St station (-there's a nice story about the connections with the MF statue in Macquarie St Sydney and the Flinders-Petrie descendents)
Visited and had a drink with Chloe at the Young and Jacksons. (-did the same on our honeymoon 45 years before!).

Jan 12: Headed up the Yarra River- Docklands, under several road and foot bridges, thro Melbourne CBD, past rowing clubs, Rod Lavis Arena, Henning Island, Private schools, brewery, Hawthorn, Toorak mansions to Johnson St (Route 34) bridge, visited the Abbotsford Convent for lunch. toured the chapel, bakery etc. stopped at Henning Island Sculpture Park on the way downstream to Warmies. Retrieved. Drove to Benalla overnight road stop.

Pretty good trip. Grandkids did pretty well in the Flying Ant Nationals. Thought the PPB microlap and trip up the Yarra was nice. Would have stayed longer or added a cruise in SA but that very hot 40+ degrees for near a week revised plans so returned home to the air con in cooler Thirroul stopping at Holbrook, Gundagai, Junee and Goulburn arriving late Jan 14. The LC boiled twice. Fixed it by conservative gearing, windows all open and heater on and guided by the temp guage. Think I may have a leaking welsh plug as losing water and hissing under the manifolds. Driveable but booked in next Tuesday.

Will try to attach a few pics in replies but may put the pics in Picasa if that gets clumsy.
