We decided to spend a week on the western beaches of Fraser Island as we were wanting to escape Townsville's high humidity after Christmas.
We towed Small Hotel to Urangan a 2100km round trip, had a great time and it was worth every long kilometer.
Stored the car and trailer in the caravan park behind the the Motor Boat Club many thanks everyone there.
The weather was perfect it stayed south east for the entire week which meant it was off shore from the western beaches. Sandflys are about as were mozzies and dingoes, just bang on aeroguard and walk everywhere with a stick to discourage the dingoes and all is good.
Coongull creek was tremendous, Wathumba was even more tremendous.
Water clarity was excellent, we explored the creeks and the outside beaches. If you anchor off the beach rather than go up the creek then the mozzies and sandflys are nowhere near as bad.
Had a a few drinks on Aussie day with some of the local boats and played beach cricket
In short we will be going back next year for whale season.

Years ago when the kids were at primary school we hired an Endeavour 24 and explored the area from Carlo Pt to a bit north of Ungowa for a week or so.

Tremendous is a good description. We swam, snorkled, fished (unsuccessfully) and walked. We loved it although I think the norther part would be even better.

Pam and I visited Rainbow beach and Tin Can Bay a few weeks ago and decided that we needed to come back with a boat and more time. The sailing club at Tin Can is very helpful too.
