Hi all,
Im looking at buying a Sunmaid 20 and can anyone give pic atypical weight of this model boat and trailer (ATM) I will buy this boat pending a marine survey but I may need to upgrade my towbar. Any thoughts would be appreciated? My car is a Holden Adventra SX6 with a standard 1600kg towing limit or 2100kg with upgrade.

Get the boat over a weighbridge first before you spend money on a survey.
Have you priced the 2100kg tow bar and associated parts plus fitting yet? They are seriously expensive...

I'm not sure why you've quoted me without adding anything?

The standard axles and hubs commonly used for trailers are rated 1000kg per axle ("Holden" bearings) or 1450kg per axle ("Ford" bearings).

As a result, a rough first approximation is that anything on a single axle is likely to be under 1500kg, while anything on a tandem would have been over about 1450kg on a single axle, and has an extra axle too, making it likely to be over 1600kg.

This is only an approximation; there are overweight boats and there are small boats on tandem trailers and there are higher rated single axles (1600kg and 2000kg are available, though expensive).

Not a Sunmaid, but my single axle Kessner Tilt Trailer for an Austral 20 is about 380 kg. Add the boat, and the whole thing becomes about 1470 kg, which aligns with Zeb's rules of thumb.

For more weights and measures, see here ... http://theboattinkerer.blogspot.com.au/2018/01/weights-and-measures-austral-20-mark-2.html
