Installing a Lowrance HDS 5 Gen 2

Post by surfsideminer » Apr 28th, '14, 21:04

With real estate for the electronics being a premium in Pearl I have installed my HDS 5 Gen 2 Display Unit onto a swivel mount so that it can been seen when in the cockpit or swung around a be seen when in the cabin.

Pictures are of the concept trial and I will probably have to remake it with stronger hinges...

I also have to install a small barrel bolt to lock it into the forward and aft positions.

Consider some sort of spring arrangement or similar so that nothing breaks when (not if) the unit is forceably folded.

My boat came with a similar arrangement but it swings right over the whole entryway and there is a slide bolt to hold it in place. You need to unbolt it to go in and out the cabin but it's not a major hassle.

Maybe use a pair of gravity hinges arranged so the "high" point of the hinge travel is in the middle of the panel's travel. This way it will naturally swing towards either the folded position or the open position:

Another brilliant suggestion, do Bunnings stock them? or do I need to go to a specialist supplier?
