Hamilton Island Race Week

Post by Stressy » Apr 17th, '18, 00:57

Hi All :D
Changes to Entry For HIRW allows Trailables over 8 mtrs to enter for $275, same for all Trailables and not just Trailables 8 mtrs and under. Great news for Magnums. Beales Spiders Etc. 11 nights on Hammo, great Value

The Long and the Short of Hamilton Island Race Week
As the list of entries for Hamilton Island Race Week climbs steadily towards one hundred, the remarkable diversity of the fleet is becoming increasingly apparent.

Apart from three 30-metre supermaxis, the current list of entries also includes a widely varying fleet of 12 multihulls, but it’s the trailable yachts that might see record numbers this year due to a more equitable entry fee structure. Regatta organisers have changed the system so owners of the larger trailables, like the Magnum, Clubman and Beale designs, pay the same amount as owners of smaller yachts.

We have 4 boats going from Lake Mac. Plan to spend a week cruising around and then 2 boats are entered in HIRW. A sonata 26 called X Rated, normally very competitive, and I'll be sailing on a Ross 780 called Zorro.
I declined to enter QE3, I mean the racing is only for a week, probably only get one race finished.
Cheers Robin.

I've met X-Rated before, Graham I think. He gets that Sonata going well.
I've seen Zorro on Lake Mac before. He's got a carbon mast and boom now ?
Its looking like a good fleet of TY's I reckon.
I think well take the Ross up there next year.

You staying on the boat, or in an apartment ?

Doing it hard in an apartment. 8)
We should swap numbers beforehand & catch up for a drink & talk about tsp & the like.
Yes Zorro is going pretty well at the moment, it should be considering the money he's spent on it, but them Queensland rosses always give you a scare.
Cheers Robin.

We'll (wife and I) will be up in the Whitsundays Aug/Sept. Would have loved to race but haven't raced since Sea Scouts last century and wife is not keen on going fast! Plan to spend about a month on the water. Might pop down to see some of the races.
