Re: Reefing

Here is a photo of my single line reefing bacchus. Tied off on starboard side of boom end , up through clew reef down to blocks either end of boom ,up to tack reef ,down to block on deck ,back to jammer . Could be the blocks are too small and reef line is puckering up at the forward boom block or th...

Reefing

Somewhere here reefing was discussed and I wished to update but can’t find it so. After todays fiasco in dropping in a reef in winds gusting to 21k with a single line reef from the cockpit (it jammed at the mast) I turned around dropped sail and converted it to a two line reef from the cockpit. Ques...

Lots of variations all doing the same job.I gather from above I should have replaced my shackles with the first sign of them not working smoothly and they are too big. I will make up a couple using 6mm and 8mm . In the meantime I ordered a 6mm 120mm one per below 8B5C9AC6-7046-484C-AD4B-6A2E1870C527...

Re: Asymmetrical Spinnaker Fitting

A top down furler has a roller wheel drum at the bottom connected to a torsion rod and a swivel at the top. The sail is connected at the tack to the roller and the head to the top swivel. By pulling a (continuous) line on the roller you roll the sail up on itself, along the luff, sort of starts up ...

Re: Soft Shackles

With mine they were my amateur monkey fist knots which over the years became out of shape. I’ll have a play with diamond knots but will get a couple of smaller professional made up ones. I tried that set up also Moody before the soft shackle . Was fine with the jib which had a small clew cringle but...

Soft Shackles

Around 3-4 years ago I made up some soft shackles for my headsail and assy sheets . The major reason was to avoid the clew getting caught up on the lifelines /stanchion which happened with regularity in light winds using bowline knots. For a few months now I have been thinking there has to be a bett...

Now I really like those ideas . I’ll try the velcro first.
Thanks

New Tek Cup Rack

My lovely Mango is devoid of any storage racks with the result that the galley sink has been the home for all manner of things. So I finally found a teak cup rack at a reasonable price ,not good with woodwork, and wish to fix it to the inside liner of the cockpit bulkhead . As the compass is on the ...

Re: Yacht Survey help please

My Sonata 6 is permanently in the water . I use New Wave Marine brokers and do not have to get a survey. Actually when I bought the boat 5 years ago I was with RACQ and they would not even give me temporary cover until I had it surveyed so I rang around. I was pretty pis..d as I had had all my insur...

Re: Can anyone identify this trailer sailer?

Thank you to you both for the advice and information. It is certainly a Kestral. A bit the worse for wear but I'm sure it will scrub up and suit an old salt getting back on the water after quite a few years. Good on you . My doc. told me six years ago after my prostatectomy if there were things I s...

I have to say I cannot remember being so stuffed as I am tonight after shampooing the carpet hull liner ,scrubbing with a brush waiting a couple of hours and vacuuming today. All in contorted positions . Did 3/4 of the boat before I ran out of shampoo and aside from a couple of brown water stains to...

I’ll clear the cabin out , give the spray on carpet cleaner a go as per furstin and if that doesn't work look at steam clean or replace carpet. Cleaning hull liner

After much ‘grass is greener’ and ‘bigger is better’ heartache I have finally decided to keep the S6 and keep her in the marina pen for ease of use for as long as I am able to sail. I can handle her solo in all winds I care to go out in and get my weekly adrenaline rush . I am the second real owner ...

Re: Oops we bought a yacht.

Thanks for the run down . Looking on the Windy app the East Aus current is quite prominent right now. You were not by chance motoring up the Broadwater to Moreton Bay last Wednesday. A large Benny gave me a wave just north of Jacobs Well when I was sailing south.
