Re: Trailer wheel hub lubrication - Another way

It would not be that hard to modify a typical axle.
Just need a lathe with a large bore through the head to accommodate the axle of one with a long bed.

Re: Outboard whilst travelling

Most sailing boats hang over the rear of the trailer a lot further than a power boat.
I run a ratchet strap from the outboard up over the rear mast crutch to boarding ladder on the opposite side of the transom.
This transfers some of the weight of the OB to the floor structure of the cockpit.

Can someone enlighten me as to what are "automotive-grade cells" Can't see who said that, and which item it's referring to. I guess it's either cells of a quality that go into cars, or cells removed from cars, tested as good and repackaged into batts with a bms. Sorry should have provided...

Re: Trailer sailer of caravan?

We have set the Hartley TS18 up to use as a caravan. Had a tarp fitted with additional eyelets for tent poles to go over the cockpit and companionway. It is symmetrical so that it forms an awing out the port or starb side. Usual tent setup under the tarp for cooking and eating. We take the mast off ...

I separated all four 5 leaf springs on my trailer and had each leaf galvanised.
That was in 2008.
Still in good condition.

Re: Good and bad batteries

That is nearly 9 years ago and no indication of failing. I find that batteries generally do not give an indication of pending failure. The last two failures in the First mate's Suzy were completely unexpected. First one backed the Suzy out and washed it. Started OK to drive it out. Went to start af...

Arnold’s Boat Shop is an online ship chandler servicing the Australian boating market.
Looks similar to the other boat store that has resurfaced as an online store.

Just changed a "SuperCharge" battery in the First Mate's Suzuki Grand Vitara.
The one I replaced was purchased in 2014.
Not bad for a vehicle that is the local shopping trolley.

Outboard Mount on Trailer

I have a Suzuki 2.5 for my Mirror 16. At present I carry the OB in the back of the Treg. The trailer is in need of a new centre section. I was thinking of extending the centre section so I could mount the OB between the winch post and the tow hitch. Has anyone done this (photos please) Should I moun...

Re: Getting boat off trailer at home

As the car pulls the trailer out, have some pre-cut timbers ready to prop under the gunwhales to stop it from crashing to one side. Most TS have strong points (cleats) either side near the transom that can be used to keep the boat upright. Before removing the boat from the trailer, put a length (wi...

Re: Groundings

The mechanism would take up the slack when the keel grounds but would not let if drop back - it would hold the keel in the highest position reached Thinking out of the box, could a seatbelt inertia reel be repurposed to stop the CB falling back. In the TS18 I have a piece of cutting board that acts...

The turning prop of the idling engine might cause damage and they will be legally liable as a result . . . .
As my rubbish bin can confirm.
It has several nasty cuts from engaging fwd.
Amazing what duct tape can repair.
